Stephanie was born and raised in Duluth where she graduated from The Marshall School in 1998. She completed her undergraduate courses at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis in 2001 and received her Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul in 2005. Stephanie returned to Duluth immediately after law school to join her father, Jim Balmer, and his partners in the representation of disadvantaged and injured people.

Stephanie and her family spend their time reading, enjoying local music, playing and coaching soccer, skiing, and curling.
